In Friday’s post, I mentioned that I had a pretty exciting weekend ahead. If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you already know that I jetted off to New York for my very first Fashion Week! I’ve always been into fashion, even predicting a lot of trends that end up blowing up soon after, like mom jeans and bucket bags!
On Thursday, Rebecca Minkoff’s team reached out to me and invited me to their Saturday show. I’ve been a huge fan of Rebecca Minkoff’s for years; the first designer bag I ever bought myself was one of hers! I was also so excited because I knew that two of my favorite bloggers, Chriselle Lim and Arielle Charnas were going to be walking in the show, and this would be my chance to meet them. It almost seemed like fate!
I already had a busy weekend, with moving and plans with friends on Saturday and Sunday, but I decided that I had to go to New York for twenty hours, and I’m so glad I did…
I’m in awe every time I’m in Grand Central Station
Late dinner at my favorite NYC spot, 12 Chairs. They make the best hummus outside of Israel itself!
I was definitely born in the wrong time. Love vintage cars!
I was absolutely in love with our little suite at RIFF Downtown. Exposed brick always feels so cool.
I freaked over the working vintage phones!
Some of my musts… stay tuned for my NYFW makeup post!
Doing my face by the window for natural light!
I forced myself to only really bring two outfit options that I could mix and match. Not easy when you want to dress to impress!
How model-esque is my best friend Leetal?
Ran into blogger Aimee Song (Song of Style) and her sister Dani (Anarchy Street) on our way to the Rebecca Minkoff show in SoHo! She complimented me on my jeans and held my hand while I changed from flip flops into heels. They were the sweetest!
It was such an honor getting to meet Rebecca Minkoff! I told her how my first designer bag purchase was one of hers, and we chatted for a few minutes about my blog. Everything from her new collection is so wearable and chic; I had to stop myself from buying everyting!
Meeting my favorite blogger/human, Arielle of SomethingNavy. I promise, my face was making the same expression!
Trying not to cry while hugging my idol.
Three nice Jewish fashionista ladies doing fashion week.
I had such a great talk with Chriselle (Chriselle Factor) and it was so cool to tell her about my blog! She gave me some life tips and was just so funny and smart. Meeting her, Rebecca Minkoff, Arielle and the Song sisters in one afternoon was so overwhelmingly amazing.
One of the things I love about New York is that I do so much walking. Too bad it was 90+ degrees out and we were kind of dying…
Being the history nerd that I am, I ran into Trinity Church to see Alexander Hamilton’s grave.
My beloved Away suitcase and I, ready to head back to Boston.
Getting to go to my first Fashion Week was so incredible, but it was a thousand times better doing it with my best friend. So many memories that I’ll cherish forever!
So here’s what I learned: Fashion Week is intense, even more so than I had always thought. For the models, the designers, the behind-the-scenes crew, and us lowly spectators. It is a lot of effort for everyone, but it is a thrilling experience nonetheless.
I admit that the idea of attending Fashion Week for the first time really brought out my insecure side. For such a short trip, I somehow managed to question myself a lot in twenty hours. Was I a good enough blogger to talk blogging with my idols? Was I skinny enough to stand near such beautiful people? Would I fit in or embarrass myself? I think that is is really interesting that a week that is supposed to celebrate new creations of beauty can bring about so many negative emotions for young men and women to grapple with.
But in the end, it was a growing experience. I had an amazing time, and I can’t wait for my next NYFW! Love, Me
