Gabrielle Goes West: Y7 Studio

I don’t talk about fitness on here too often, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a big part of my life. The embarrassing truth of the matter is that for the most part, my fitness routine has been nonexistent; after all, it can’t qualify as a routine if it’s sporadic.

But since moving to LA and spending most of my time driving rather than walking, I became determined to start off on the right foot. So when a friend invited me to yoga my first week here, I said yes – another goal of mine since moving here: say yes to more adventures and trying new things!

I met her at Y7 Studio on Melrose Ave, a seriously cool space where all classes are set to hip-hop in a very warm, dark room lit only with candles. I had no idea what I was in for, but I was determined to give it a shot.

The class was hard but doable. Y7 uses infrared heat, so it’s hot but dry, unlike most hot yoga studios, which feel like Miami in July. Infrared heat warms you on a molecular level, i.e. from the inside out. Benefits include increased blood flow and detoxification. It also boosts your metabolism and burns a crazy amount of calories. I sweat more than I ever have before, but I left feeling energized, happy, and the next morning, mildly sore but feeling incredible.

Almost a month later, Y7 has changed my life. I go almost every day, and I feel so great about it, physically and mentally. It’s a place to start my day, recharge my batteries, clear my mind, and get moving. The music and flows are incredibly empowering; I feel like I can do anything I set my mind to! I also take immense pride in my progress. I can feel myself getting stronger, with better balance and flexibility. It’s also helped me lose weight, which wasn’t something I really needed, but I’m definitely not complaining!

If you’re in LA, come to a class with me! If you’re in NYC, they have a few studios there, too. I’ve recommended Y7 to everyone I meet, and now I’m telling you: it’s phenomenally life-changing, and one of the best things about my new life here so far.

Love, Me
