When I first got my mom into Glossier, she kept saying how much she loved Priming Moisturizer Rich, but that they needed to make a sunscreen. Now, just in time for Mother’s Day, Glossier is debuting possibly its biggest game-changer (and that’s saying something), Invisible Shield. IS is a sunscreen-serum hybrid that is two years in the making, and for good reason: it’s meant to be the sunscreen for the sunscreen-averse. This includes Glossier founder Emily Weiss, who this week confessed to not wearing sunscreen!
We know that sunscreen is important, we know that we need to be wearing it year-round, no matter the weather. But many of us don’t, and there are plenty of reasons why: it clogs pores, makes us break out, makes us look greasy, chalky, or somehow both, and even that it’s a terrible base for makeup.
I admit to being a sun-protection hypocrite. I worship the sun during the day, and then pamper my skin at night. Living with Seasonal Affective Disorder, the Vitamin D sunshine provides makes a huge difference in my life. Some of my moisturizers contain SPF, but not all of them. I know that I should know better, but as someone who lived with acne for a long time, I can’t bring myself to risk going back now that I know how good my skin can look.
As usual, Glossier is here to solve my problems. Unlike most sunscreens, it’s alcohol-free, so it won’t dry out your skin. It’s a clear-ish gel that perfectly absorbs into your skin, making it a perfect middle step between your moisturizer and makeup. It protects against UVA and UVB, neutralizes free radicals, and works against pollution, all with an SPF of 35, higher than most fancy moisturizers.

The Breakdown
What it is: Vegan, Non-Comedogenic (it won’t clog your pores), Hypoallergenic, Dermatologist-tested, lightweight, sheer
What it is not: Tested on animals, Waterproof, greasy, chalky
Made with: Aloe Leaf, Vitamins E and P, Broccoli
Made without: Alcohol, Soy, Gluten, Parabens, Fragrances
Smells like: Orange and citrus (thanks to essential oil)
