Boston Beauty Guide, Part 2: Try Something New

As I mentioned in my last post, I got to try something very cool this week: an infrared sauna session!  I read on Byrdie.com about infrared light being very beneficial, and I immediately looked into it.  I am not someone who easily drops a ton of money on beauty treatments; I’ve never gotten a massage, and only gotten one facial in my entire life, because my parents paid for it.  So I checked out Groupon to see if there was any infrared deal available in Boston, and luckily for me, there was!  I looked into the Cabral Wellness Institute, and the reviews were great, so I bought the 3-session package for only $60 (they also have a single session and 5-session options), AND Groupon had a promo for $10 off as well, so it was an even better deal.  I bought the Groupon and immediately went on their website to book a session for that day!

Cabral specializes in helping people with all kind of health problems, both internal and skin-deep.  I was immediately calmed walking into their waiting room, and after filling out a quick form to establish that I didn’t have certain health problems, I was shown into my room!  Aaron, the Cabral employee, showed me where I could put my bag and clothes and explained how the infrared booth worked.  Basically it is a one-person cube that is filled with a glowing blue light.  You can wear a towel or go au natural to sit or lie on the long wooden bench.  The time and temp are all programmed for you, so all you need to do is relax!  They even have a private bathroom where you can shower after sweating it out.  Since this was my first time, I was too excited to nap, but I was told that lots of people nap during their session.

So how was it?  Totally awesome.  I sweat, I relaxed, I thought.  And I left the cube feeling both energized and sleepy, and glowing all over.  I’ve already booked my next session, and I encourage anyone who needs a pick-me-up to do the same, or just in general, to try something new!  Your body might thank you…
